First day 3rd grade!

Our computer crashed but I do not want this day to go un-documented so I am blogging from my phone.

Here is my sweet boy whose "a little nervous and a little excited" about starting 3rd grade today.

Lord, bless all our children and teachers and keep them safe this school year.

Christmas Dinner 2013

Well darn. It appears I only took 6 pictures when we hosted Christmas dinner. How on earth? Other than a million details and things running through my mind, I guess I could not grab a hold of the camera long enough to run around.  Instead, I enjoyed the company of our family.

Oh well, here is my Caprese skewer appetizer.  I saw this on The Pioneer Woman but paid ZERO attention to the size of the sticks. ZERO. So, they are huge like kabobs and I am sure I could have found cute smaller ones. But whatever, they were very festive and tasted good. Mozzarella, tomato, basil and spinach tortellini sprinkled with salt pepper and balsalmic, yum!

Everyone brought food and we prepared meats and sides as well.
 Some of the littliest......
My baby on the left and sweet cousin Morgan on the right.
My nephew Cory who was 11 when I met him, his girlfriend
Kayla as well and my in laws.
My BIL and SIL Kenny and TamRa looking at the camera because I said, "Look!"

Christmas decor 2014

Ok! First Christmas in the new house means outside lights and decor do not fit exactly where they should! BUT, but.....this roof line is super duper high compared to our last house that was 2 story so there were no lights to be had up yonder.  No way would I risk my husbands safety and no way was I paying someone so....Lights down low it is!  I was not too excited about the plastic snowman you see FRONT AND CENTER. Someone at K's work bought it to win an office decorating contest ONE TIME and spent $40 at Hobby Lobby (sticker attached) then gave it to him.  WHO DOES THAT?!
Inside the front door I put our nutcracker's instead of by the fireplace this year. Everything was just me trying stuff out in this house and seeing how I liked it!
New, $17 after Christmas sale last year.  Pre-lit and colored from Big Lots.
Wacky topper!
A cute girl elf....
and a cute boy elf, both after Christmas for $5 at CVS, score!

The big tree.  Trying new things. Prettier lit up than not.  Lotta work to do to get it where I want it but NO MONEY SPENT this year and that is super fine with me.
Re-purposed wreath from many years of Christmas.

Only thing new were the stockings this year.  50% off at Hob Lob so about $7 each.  D picked out his reindeer stocking in the middle.  ** OIY! I spy a new sleigh too!  75% off at Pier 1 last year after Christmas for $75.  I never spend that much but I knew the light up sleigh was worth it and my hubby went to get it for me.  He is a gem, have I mentioned that?
Another tree in the formal dining area.  $10 after Christmas, pre-lit white.  I kept it simple.  The biggest thing was the topper and the "is it too late to be good?" sign....some mesh ribbon and a few balls, done!
Small vignette upstairs on a sofa table.  Love my Santa photo and my Merry Christmas ribbon from Target's $1 section....
Main living room small table at sectional..
"Slim" tree I bought for the apartment last year (limited space) with Fall colors that went up before Halloween (Hello, FALL!)....at the heart of the staircase.
Formal dining room, still no formal (ish) table....we have a tree and portable tables we use for all our entertaining.  Definitely got our monie's worth from years of birthday parties and entertaining.  Even when we buy a dining set we will have to remove it to accommodate more seating. (still need to paint)

Walking in the front door, here is the foyer all decorated!
Top of the stairs vignette and D's small tree with all his handmade personal ornaments just outside his door.
Fresh greenery on kitchen island....
And a few of my special ornaments, most self explanatory.

Below, the Sweet treats and Christmas Wishes ornament came from Goodwill shopping and I displayed it in my kitchen.
I found fun green and red straws at Marshall's for $3 and made a vignette with 2 Pellegrino bottles that turned out cute and simple.

Another tree on the upstair's catwalk (after Christmas $10) that became Santa themed.

Lots of work.  Ok, TONS of work to decorate but I love the result so I tried!

Christmas Eve 2013

We were hosting Christmas dinner again this year.  Not because I enjoy torturing myself but because I want my son to have memories (and I love my family!).  He only has one set of paternal grandparents and no siblings (plenty of cousins!) so I want to make it as memorable as possible. That being said, we were barely settling in the new house and might have almost forgot cookies for Santa but in the end, here you go.

This little Aggie (hi Lori!) is always ready to smile.
And be silly for the camera.  Daddy always suggests Santa favorites then we have to remind him it's "Santa".  Sugar cookies with green and red Sprinkles and cream cheese frosting were plenty okay with the little guy...

D's first Houston Texans game - 2014

It took almost 8 years from the time he was born for his daddy and I to take him to an NFL game.  Some kids sit and enjoy games at an earlier age, not this one.  No, no, no.  We discussed it and decided this football season (2013) would be the year for him. He was finally showing a ton of interest in sports and especially football.  We purchased the tickets to the Houston Texans way.too.early.  Know why?  Prices.  Know why else?  Because they went 2-14.  In case I lost you, tickets plus parking plus a concession were about $400 total for 3 PEOPLE. THREE.  I lie awake at night with regret.  Never again will we purchase early.  That being said we built up the hype for him for months.  The first two games had us thinking playoffs, or dare I say, Superbowl contention.  My baby got a jersey, an "official" jersey as we prepared for the event of a life time.  We met a friend for brief tailgating on the way in. We were more excited about giving him a little tour of everything.
The obligatory photo with dad in front of the 8th wonder of the world.

And then with me. We did not do many events when I was a child but the Houston Oilers theme song does stand out. At this place.
Bragging moment:  My hubby looking as good as JJ Watt and he is twice his age.  He works hard at it so he deserves the compliment.  Love you honey!
Little man ran the relay where they time you....
And lastly, watching the pre-game warm up.  Andre Johnson to be specific.
I have no other photos after this.  It was another loss but we tried to be as positive as possible for Dominic.  I mean, what are you gonna do? #tryagainnextyear
